RRAR members were treated to an information session from the North Carolina Turnpike Authority about the completion of the 540 Beltline in Wake County.

Dennis Jernigan, Deputy Chief Engineer for NCTA, told the audience that the next two phases that would complete to Beltline will 'change the way people commute in Wake County'.

Phase One of the Beltline (or the Southern Wake Expressway) will be completed summer of 2024. The stretch will run from Holly Springs to the White Oak area of Garner. Phase Two (or the Eastern Wake Expressway) will begin construction this year, with the project scheduled to be completed in 2028.

Jernigan shared many aspects of what goes into a massive project like 540 including noise wall construction, accommodations for cyclists & pedestrians, and plans for toll roads.
