Diaper Drive Helps Struggling Families

April 30-May 4

Cary, NC (April 27, 2012) – The REALTOR^® Foundation of the Triangle’s Community Service Committee is conducting a “Diaper Drive” for the Saint Saviours Center Healthy Baby program April 30-May4, 2012.– The diapers are distributed through Diaper Train, a service that aids needy families in the Triangle by collecting & delivering diapers, baby wipes, etc. to various agencies.

Sara DuChon, Chair of the Foundation’s Community Service Committee said, “Many people do not know that diapers are not provided as a part of food assistance programs. Babies cannot attend daycare in cloth diapers. In addition, cloth diapers are not allowed to be washed at Laundromats. As a result, many parents have to make difficult choices, as disposable diapers can cost up to $100 a month. Babies are more likely to be abused when they cry from not be changed frequently enough.”

In 2011, the Saint Saviour’s Healthy Baby program provided 65,000 diapers to the various charitable organizations around Wake County.

Nationwide Open House

This Saturday and Sunday

Cary, NC (April 27, 2012) – To help potential home buyers realize the dream of owning a home, the Raleigh Regional Association of REALTORS^® (RRAR) is participating in REALTOR^® Nationwide Open House this weekend. Eight in 10 adults agree that buying a home is the best long-term investment a person can make. That is according to a recent nationwide Pew Research Center survey, demonstrating the value that Americans continue to place on home ownership.

“Home ownership benefits individuals and families, and strengthens our communities said Laurie Donofrio, Chair of the RRAR Open House Subcommittee. “The decision to own a home is a personal one, but we believe that anyone who is able and willing should have the opportunity to pursue that dream. The REALTOR® Nationwide Open House Weekend gives REALTORS® the opportunity to bring buyers and sellers together and help them connect with local residents about the housing issues that matter most to the people in our community.”

A strong majority of renters surveyed in the Pew Research Center study – 81 percent – said they would prefer to one day buy a home. In addition, respondents rated being able to own a home as the top long-term financial goal followed by being able to live comfortably in retirement, pay for a child’s college education, and leave inheritance for children.

REALTORS® are hosting open houses in various local neighborhoods throughout Wake County and the rest of North Carolina this weekend to provide guidance and insights into the social and financial benefits of home ownership. They can also answer questions about the local housing market and the home buying and selling process.
