Complete Your Code of Ethics Requirement

Complete your Code of Ethics requirement

The National Association of REALTORS® – not the NC Real Estate Commission – has mandated that all REALTORS® must complete an approved Code of Ethics class every four years.

The second quadrennial cycle began January 1, 2005, and ends December 31, 2008. So, failure to fulfill this obligation by then will result in your termination from NAR and the loss of all concomitant benefits, including MLS access.

Have you completed your Mandatory Code of Ethics class yet? If yes, have you confirmed that your current association has record of it? If you’re not sure if you have taken the class, call your association or check online at www.rrar.com under “Membership Services” as soon as possible.

If the association does not, then you must obtain an original certificate of completion from the organization where you took the class and present it to your association. No copies or faxes are accepted. Also, you must be certain the course has been approved by your local association.

If you have no proof that you have taken the Code of Ethics class since January 1, 2005, then you must take the class again before December 31, 2008. (Note: If you have joined a REALTOR® association and been through New Member Orientation since January 1, 2005, then you have automatically fulfilled your Code of Ethics requirement. The Code of Ethics class is taught during all associations’ orientations).

If you know for sure that you haven’t taken the class yet, sign up for one as soon as possible. There are several ways to fulfill the requirement:

  • Complete a four-hour Continuing Education (CE) elective course. Approved courses are listed below.
  • Take the online CE course, #2494 through www.rrar.com.
  • Attend the two and a half hour Code of Ethics portion of our New Member Orientation – which doesn’t carry CE credit – offered the first and third Thursday of every month. Cost is $25 and space is very limited. Call Susan Jones at (919) 654-5400 to sign up.
You must register for the following courses:
Ethics and Real Estate CBT   #2494
Ethics and Real Estate    #2419
Ethics for the Commercial Agent  #2466
For the Good of All: REALTOR® Code of Ethics #2504
For Your Own Good: REALTOR® Ethics  #2420
Professional Ethics: It’s The Right Thing To Do  #2479
Keeping Right in Sight #2619
Ethics for REALTORS® #2750

For a complete list of CE courses, visit the Raleigh Regional Association of REALTORS® Web site at www.rrar.com and click on Education Courses on the right side of the page, then on Register for Courses Here.
