North Carolina State Continuing Education Requirements

According to the North Carolina Real Estate Commission, real estate agents must complete eight (8) hours of continuing education each year.  Included in the eight hour requirement is the Mandatory Update (4 hours) and you may choose one elective course (4 hours).  However, the real estate year in which you are initially licensed, (either salesman or broker), you are not required to complete any continuing education.  The continuing education year is from July 1 to June 10.  If you desire, after completing the required eight hours, you may complete an additional elective course to carry over to the following year.

Agents may select from a wide range of State approved continuing education courses offered at the Raleigh Regional Association of REALTORS®.  Over 60 courses are scheduled each year to provide real estate licensees an opportunity to update their knowledge in the real estate profession.  “Commercial specific” courses allow Triangle Commercial Association of REALTORS® members to remain up-to-date on the latest industry practices.
In addition to the required continuing education courses many agents choose to attain a higher level of professionalism through advanced educational programs.  These programs, co-sponsored and developed by the National Association of REALTORS®, lead to various professional designations. These designations indicate a REALTOR® has taken the extra time, effort and expense to enhance their professional acumen.
