Housing Opportunity Committee Projects

What we do!

NC Workforce Housing Specialist
The Workforce Housing Specialist certification is for REALTORS® who serve buyers at the lower end of the market. The Housing Opportunity Committee sponsors several of the courses that count towards this certification. For more information, please visit www.homes4NC.org.

“Financing Dreams”
Committee sponsors the Continuing Education class “Financing Dreams”. The course provides in-depth coverage of the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency programs, including property and buyer eligibility, the loan process, and information on how you can help clients purchase their first homes. This course is NC Real Estate Commission approved for four hours of elective credit and also counts towards the WorkForce Housing designation.

Affordable Housing Fair
In June 2009, the committee sponsored an Affordable Housing Fair at Triangle Towne Center. It featured local builders, mortgage lenders, and community agencies. They provided information and resources to the public about the home-buying process. As a REALTOR®, you understand the dream of every family being able to own a home and this was an opportunity to bring solid information to the public.
NBC 17 Phone Bank
The Committee has been featured twice this year on NBC 17 News. Owning or buying a home in this economy can be confusing. Our committee volunteered to answer viewer call-ins about the homebuyer tax credit, loan modification, foreclosures, and closings.

Housing Hero Seminar
The Committee sponsors a speakers event each year. This year, it is the “Be A Housing Hero” seminar. The seminar will feature Kat Driscol from the NC Housing Finance Agency and Mel Ellis from the Single Family Housing Program of the USDA Rural Development. This seminar counts towards the WorkForce housing designation.

This year, the Affordable Housing committee will make a donation to the Builders of Hope organization. The Committee is honored to have received a matching donation from Homes4NC for a total gift amount of $8,000, annually, for the past four years.
